A group show by the Ottawa-Gatineau Printmakers Connective

The Ottawa School of Art, Orleans Campus Gallery is proud to present Print Pairings: Colour vs Black and White, a group show by the Ottawa-Gatineau Printmakers Connective. Works will be on display from May 14 to June 24, 2023 at the Ottawa School of Art’s Orleans Gallery located on the main floor of the Shenkman Arts Centre 245 Centrum Blvd. Orleans ON. K1E 0A1. Reception on Sunday May 28, from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. Everyone is welcome!

For many artists, the choice to work in colour or strictly in black and white is a fundamental design decision. With ready access to every possible hue, a choice to abstain from colour is all the more shocking or thought-provoking.

In this exhibition, the artists present a pair of prints – one in black and white, and one in colour. The exhibition is an exploration of how the prints in each pairing complement and accentuate, or even challenge, each other. The prints are not necessarily the same rather, the artist matches two prints to demonstrate how they use colour versus black and white to convey separate meanings, place different emphases, create distinct moods, or express diverse emotions.

Une exposition de groupe du Collectif d’artistes-graveurs d’Ottawa-Gatineau

La galerie de l’École d’art d’Ottawa — campus d’Orléans est fière de présenter Print Pairings : Colour vs Black and White (Estampes jumelées : couleur vs noir et blanc), une exposition de groupe du Collectif d’artistes-graveurs d’Ottawa-Gatineau. Les œuvres seront exposées du 14 mai au 24 juin 2023, à la galerie de l’École d’art d’Ottawa — campus d’Orléans, située à l’étage principal du Centre des arts Shenkman au 245 boulevard Centrum, Orléans (Ontario), K1E 0A1. La réception aura lieu le dimanche 28 mai, de 13 h à 15 h. Bienvenue à tous ! 

Pour de nombreux artistes, le choix de travailler en couleur ou strictement en noir et blanc est une décision de conception fondamentale. Avec un accès facile à toutes les teintes imaginables, le choix de s’abstenir des couleurs est d’autant plus étonnant ou porte à réflexion.

Dans cette exposition, les artistes présentent une paire d’estampes ; une en noir et blanc et une en couleur. L’exposition consiste en une exploration de la façon dont les estampes de chaque paire se complètent et s’accentuent, voire se défient. Les estampes ne sont pas forcément les mêmes ; l’artiste associe deux œuvres pour illustrer comment elles utilisent les couleurs par rapport au noir et blanc, pour transmettre des significations distinctes, mettre des accents différents, créer des ambiances précises ou exprimer diverses émotions autour d’un thème ou d’une image connexe.

Migration

In this group exhibition, eight local artist-printmakers share their diverse interpretations of migration. The artists participating in “Migration” raise important and timely political, economic, ecological and social issues. They do so in a wide variety of formats and printmaking techniques. The body of work creates an immersive experience about the phenomena of migration. This exhibition invites the viewer to reflect on their own relationship or history with the phenomena of migration.

The artists are Murray Dineen, Deidre Hierlihy, Freida Hjartarson, Shealagh Pope, Madeleine Rousseau, Beth Shepherd, Patricia Slighte and Lynda Turner

THE OTTAWA-GATINEAU PRINTMAKERS CONNECTIVE PRESENTS THREE THEMED EXHIBITIONS AT THE ALTA VISTA BRANCH OF THE OTTAWA PUBLIC LIBRARY 

You are invited to visit the Alta Vista Branch of the OPL between Jan. 20 and March 17, 2023 to be immersed in printmaking and in the perspective of 20 local printmakers through 48 original prints created using a variety of printmaking techniques. 

“COLOUR CHANGES EVERYTHING” EXHIBITION

The exhibition is happening in the middle of winter when we most need ‘colour’ to lift our spirits and bring some cheerfulness into our lives.  On top of our colourful prints, perhaps some funky fungi, spiders, a sassy blackbird or sailing rats might cause you to chuckle.  Why not visit our exhibition to find the similarities and difference among the 28 thought-provoking prints.

 “IN THE LIBRARY” EXHIBITION

Libraries are magical places that speak a universal language. No matter where you may be, a library can provide a reprieve, a sense of the familiar and a connection to the community and world at large. Participating printmakers share works inspired by their feelings, thoughts and experiences around books and the libraries that make these accessible to so many.

LE COLLECTIF D’ARTISTES-GRAVEURS D’OTTAWA-GATINEAU PRÉSENTE TROIS EXPOSITIONS THÉMATIQUES À LA SUCCURSALE ALTA VISTA DE LA BIBLIOTHÈQUE PUBLIQUE D’OTTAWA. 

Vous êtes invités à visiter la succursale Alta Vista de la BPO entre le 20 janvier et le 17 mars 2023 pour vous immerger dans les arts imprimés et dans la perspective de 20 graveurs locaux à travers 48 gravures originales créées en utilisant une variété de techniques d’impression.

EXPOSITION « LA COULEUR CHANGE TOUT »

L’exposition a lieu en plein hiver, au moment où nous avons le plus besoin de “couleur” pour nous remonter le moral et apporter un peu de gaieté dans nos vies.  En plus de nos estampes colorées, il y aura peut-être des champignons funky, des araignées, un merle insolent ou des rats marins qui pourraient vous faire rire.  Pourquoi pas visiter notre exposition et découvrir les similitudes et les différences entre les 28 estampes incitant à la réflexion.

EXPOSITION « DANS LA BIBLIOTHÈQUE »

Les bibliothèques sont des lieux magiques qui parlent un langage universel. Où que vous soyez, une bibliothèque peut vous offrir un répit, un sentiment de familiarité et un lien avec la communauté et le monde en général. Les artistes-graveurs participants partagent des œuvres inspirées de leurs sentiments, leurs pensées et leurs expériences liés aux livres et aux bibliothèques qui les rendent accessibles à tant de personnes.

Group Exhibition “At the Library” now at Ottawa School of Art – Exposition collective “À la bibliothèque” à l’École d’art d’Ottawa

Eight artists, members of the Ottawa-Gatineau Printmakers Connective, have a group exhibition titled At the Library at the Ottawa School of Art (Byward Market campus). Stephanie Amos, Luigina Baratto, Murray Dineen, Deidre Hierlihy, Shealagh Pope, Madeleine Rousseau, Beth Shepherd and Jennifer Waterman have interpreted the theme using such printmaking techniques as linocuts, stone lithography, drypoint, collagraphy, and handmade stamps, to produce two- and three-dimensional art works. The guest Curator is Stephanie Amos.

Location: Ottawa School of Art 35 Georges St. Ottawa. The exhibition is in the vitrines on the first floor of the OSA.

Exposition collective “À la bibliothèque” à l’École d’art d’Ottawa

Huit artistes, membres du Collectif d’artistes-graveurs d’ Ottawa-Gatineau, présentent une exposition collective intitulée À la bibliothèque à l’École d’art d’Ottawa (campus du marché By). Stephanie Amos, Luigina Baratto, Murray Dineen, Deidre Hierlihy, Shealagh Pope, Madeleine Rousseau, Beth Shepherd et Jennifer Waterman ont interprété le thème en utilisant des techniques des arts imprimés telles que la linogravure, la lithographie sur pierre, la pointe sèche, la collagraphie et les tampons faits à la main, pour produire des œuvres d’art bidimensionnelles et tridimensionnelles. La conservatrice invitée est Stephanie Amos.

Lieu : École d’art d’Ottawa 35, rue Georges, Ottawa. L’exposition se trouve dans les vitrines du premier étage de l’OSA.

New Exhibition “Printmaking without a Press” / Nouvelle exposition “Oui, on peut faire des arts imprimés sans l’usage d’une presse ”

OTTAWA-GATINEAU PRINTMAKERS CONNECTIVE PRESENTS THE EXHIBITION ‘PRINTMAKING WITHOUT A PRESS‘

In 2020 and 2021 many printmakers did not have access to a printing press as collective print studios were closed during the pandemic. Fortunately, not all printmaking techniques require the use of a press. In this exhibition organized by the Ottawa-Gatineau Printmakers Connective, twelve printmakers created original printed artwork without using a press.  This shows that printmaking can be affordable and accessible to all, with just a few tools, like a spoon!  Artists used such techniques as relief, hapa zome, gyotaku, ecoprinting, cyanotype, monotype – traced or  using a gel plate, marbling,  stencilling and stamping.

The Printmaking without A Press exhibition showcases original 2D and 3D artwork by 12 OGPC printmakers.They use a variety of techniques not requiring the use of a press.
L’exposition Oui on peut faire des arts imprimés sans l’usage d’une presse ! présente des oeuvres 2D et 3D de 12 artistes-graveurs du CAGOG. Ceux-ci ont utilisés diverses techniques d’impression ne nécessitant pas l’utilisation d’une presse.

LE COLLECTIF D’ARTISTES-GRAVEURS D’OTTAWA-GATINEAU PRÉSENTE L’EXPOSITION  ‘OUI ON PEUT FAIRE DES ARTS IMPRIMÉS SANS L’USAGE D’UNE PRESSE’  

Ces deux dernières années, de nombreux artistes-graveurs n’avaient pas accès à une presse pour travailler car les ateliers collectifs équipés de presses étaient fermés pendant la pandémie. Heureusement plusieurs techniques d’impression ne nécessitent pas l’utilisation d’une presse. Dans cette exposition organisée par le Collectif d’artistes-graveurs d’Ottawa-Gatineau, 12 artistes ont créé des estampes originales en 2D et 3D sans l’usage d’une presse. Cela démontre bien que les arts imprimés peuvent être abordables et accessibles, avec peu d’outils, comme une cuiller ! Les artistes ont utilisé des techniques telles que le relief, le hapa zome, le gyotaku, l’éco-impression, le cyanotype, le monotype  en tracé ou à l’aide d’une plaque de gel, la marbrure, le pochoir et les tampons.

Printer’s Ink : How many words make a picture?

Fifteen printmakers took up the challenge to answer the question:
How many words make a picture?

Working in a variety of printmaking techniques (etching, woodblock, linocut, collograph, chine collé, etc.) the artists creations are based on a poem, a saying, a quote, a novel or a proverb. The resulting works were exhibited at The Stone School Gallery in Portage-du-Fort, Quebec in 2020. The texts that each artist drew inspiration from accompany the artwork (for display only).

Now, in these days of pandemic, when galleries are closed, we offer the results of the Printers’ Ink challenge here online. All artwork is for sale. Prices do not include taxes or delivery charges. Please contact the individual artist if you have enquiries.

Quinze graveurs ont relevé le défi de répondre à la question : Combien de mots font une image ?

Travaillant dans une variété de techniques de gravure (eau-forte, gravure sur bois, linogravure, collographie, chine collé, etc.) les créations des artistes sont basées sur un poème, un dicton, une citation, un roman ou un proverbe. Les œuvres en deux et trois dimensions qui en résultent ont été exposées à la galerie L’École en pierre à Portage-du-Fort, au Québec, en 2020. Printer’s Ink: How many words make a picture?

Inspired by Words. Fifteen OGPC members created works inspired by words of a poem, lyric, proverb or saying:

Sylvia Bretzloff, Madeleine Rousseau, Peter Dolan, Murray Dineen, Roger Sutcliffe, Debra James Percival, Shirley Yik, Shealagh Pope, Valerie Bridgeman, Denise Lachance, Deidre Hierlihy, Tina Petrovicz, Dale Shutt, Patricia Slighte and Louise Guay.

Their works will be shown at the Stone School Gallery at Portage-du-Fort, Quebec, from September 11 to October 11, 2020. Wearing a mask is mandatory indoors and a limited number of guests will be allowed in the Gallery at any one time.

Join us for an outdoor vernissage under a tent on September 11 from 6 to 8 pm. Refreshments will be served.

Some of the artists will be at the gallery in the weekend during the exhibition. It is another chance to see the show and meet the artists. Check the website for gallery hours at http://artpontiac.com/en/.

A curator talk by Tina Petrovicz will take place at closing day, October 11 from 1:30 to 3:30 pm. She will discuss her process that has led to the adaption of her printmaking with the integration of light and movement to create new expressions of art.

OGPC at Arts and Crafts Fair in Sandy Hill Ottawa- Nov. 9 2019

Members of Ottawa-Gatineau Printmakers Connective will be participating in the One and Only Arts and Crafts Fair on November 9, 2019 10am-4pm at the Sandy Hill Community Centre in Ottawa. Free admission.

We will have original prints for sale (50$ or less) as well as hand printed greeting cards, bookmarks, notebooks and other printed material.

Culture Days 2019 Activities

September 27 to 29, 2019 Ontario Culture Days will be a vibrant weekend of expression to explore the intersections of creativity, the arts, and well-being. During the Culture Days in Ottawa On, the Ottawa-Gatineau Printmaker’s Connective will open its print studio to the public, and hold a vernissage for its current show in the Gallery, where you can meet the artists.

VERNISSAGE

The vernissage for the current show on collagraph prints will take place on Thursday Sept. 26, from 5:30PM- 8:30PM in the Gallery space.
Thirteen local printmakers have over 20 original hand pulled prints in this show.
A collagraph is basically a printed collage, allowing the artist a lot of freedom to get texture and colours in a print. Everyone welcome! Bring a friend!
15% of sales of prints are donated to the City-run Young at Art Program.
